I recently had purchased a digital camera for my excursions into the field and being able to take pictures for the web site. I immediately realized that I would be foolish to not buy rechargeable batteries for my camera so I did. I found that now that I had these batteries, I had no place to safely keep them when they weren't in use. They were rolling around the bottom of my backpack, being taped together or held in the original plastic packaging. I decided I needed to make something that would hold my batteries and the while keeping them clean, dry, and charged. I designed the box in the field with the help of a calculator and a ruler. It is relatively simple, it holds four AA size batteries and the lid is a sliding dovetail which is friction fit. They are all oiled and finished. The variations in wood will be limited as some woods are extremely difficult to work with in situations such as these. I had originally planned on marketing these wholesale and still intend to do so. I will however sell them in orders of 5 or more to the general public for the retail price. The retail price is $16.50. If you are interested in this product wholesale you will need to contact me for information in regards to the ordering process. I am hoping that with due time I will develop a wood burning stamp so I can place the business logo on the bottom of each individual storage device (my logo can be seen at the bottom of the page). In addition to this logo, I would be interested in adding various detailed carvings (laser) to the side of the holder. This would be available for larger orders and dependant on design desired. Again, I ask you to please call for pricing. I have spoken with many people who are amateur and professional photographers. I have also spoken with regular hikers and campers, with bikers, and with fisherman. It seems everyone has a story as to how they deal with their extra batteries when not in use. Some have designed similar storage devices, admittedly a little more crude and less durable, to keep their batteries safe. Each and everyone one of them wanted to buy one immediately. I am sure that if you are a regular user of AA batteries (I will create one AAA if necessary) you will see that this is an invaluable addition to the array of digital devices you have.
In every manual regarding various electronic devices there is a section regarding battery care. There is always the suggestion/warning that only equally charged batteries be inserted into the device. When batteries are exposed to who knows what when rolling around in whatever bag they are carried in, they come in contact with dirt, debris and other materials that may affect the charge on that particular battery. This product will prevent that from happening and hopefully prolong the life of your electronic devices. Remember, this carrying case will also keep your batteries clean.
The resistivity of the woods used in the creation of this product is approximately 10^7 mega ohms. What does this mean to you? Your batteries will not discharge while in this carrying case!
The overall dimensions of the Battery Holder is 3 1/4" Wide, 2 7/16 " Tall and 1" Thick. The available woods for this product are Oak, Cherry, Walnut, Mahogany, Ash and Birch. Other woods may be available upon request (please call for pricing). For more information in regards to the care and maintenance of the AA Battery Holder I have provided a .pdf file for your convenience.
